Supporters of Leeds United have been flocking to a Twitter post from The Athletic reporter Phil Hay.
During the Whites’ 3-1 victory over Blackburn Rovers on Saturday, Hay ran a Twitter commentary of the match and one of his posts gained a swell of responses.
The Twitter post from the journalist looked to slate a ‘ludicrous’ decision from the referee for what he believed to be a wrong decision (per Phil Hay).
According to Hay, Blackburn ‘keeper Christian Walton brought down Patrick Bamford just outside of the 18-yard box when the attacker was clean through on goal and should have been red-carded, however, he only received a yellow.
Lots of Leeds supporters then flocked to the Twitter post from The Athletic journalist to air their views.
Gotta be a red. Got to be

However, despite the decision supposedly going against the visitors at Ewood Park, Marcelo Bielsa’s side was still able to claim three points in a 3-1 victory (per BBC).
Should Christian Walton have been sent off for bringing down Patrick Bamford?Yes, it was a red cardNo, it was a yellow |

With West Bromwich Albion also picking up three points in a 4-2 victory over Hull City on Sunday (per BBC), Leeds’ victory meant that they maintained their spot at the top of the Championship table (per BBC).
The Elland Road outfit is currently one point ahead of the Baggies and six points ahead of third-placed Brentford.
Sculduggery ref

That’s an absolutely shocking ref decision

This ref should be investigated

He’s been awful not booking Blackburn at all then clear red gives yellow
— Russ (@russcausier) July 4, 2020
However, some supporters felt that the referee got the decision correct.
I’m not having a red for that Bamford played the ball out of his own path, defender would have got it even if he’d stayed up
— Chris L (@LUFCTX) July 4, 2020
The defender was covering – think a yellow was the right decision.

As can be seen in most of the responses from Leeds supporters, though, they clearly felt that Walton should have been sent off for bringing Bamford down.
