Ex-Rangers goalkeeper Cameron Bell joined host David Edgar on a recent edition of the Heart and Hand podcast to discuss the latest goings-on with the Glasgow-based club and the pair spent some time discussing midfielder Joe Aribo during the show.

During this recent edition of the Heart and Hand podcast, Edgar was full of praise for Aribo (8:08) following his goalscoring performance in Rangers’ recent pre-season friendly win over Coventry City and the Gers’ former ‘keeper Bell then shared an optimistic view on the role that the Nigeria international could play for the Glasgow-based club during the 2020/21 season.

Bell said of Aribo: “[He] could prove to be a missing piece of the puzzle, that when we’ve resorted to type in terms of full-backs being able to get in and put crosses into the box playing against tall central defenders who will typically clear their lines pretty effectively, being able to get someone who can unlock part of that through the middle of the park could be, possibly, one of the biggest advantages to our play this season.

“I think that there’s probably been elements of that where we’ve seen that from Joe Aribo – obviously, your immediate thought process is [his goal last season against] Braga, and then you’ve seen how he’s played in the pre-season so far.”

TIF Thoughts…

It’s clear from his comments during his recent appearance on the Heart and Hand podcast that Bell has plenty of expectation for Aribo heading into the 2020/21 campaign and he feels that the 24-year-old could have a significant role to play for the Gers as they attempt to improve on their second-place finish last season and try to win their first Scottish top-flight title since the 2010/11 campaign.

Given that no Rangers midfielder scored more goals or provided more assists than Aribo in all competitions last season, it may be understandable why there could be plenty of expectation on him to play a big role for the Gers this coming season.
