Duncan Castles and Ian McGarry discussed the latest football transfer news during the most recent edition of The Transfer Window podcast and one of the topics of discussion that came up during the show is Alfredo Morelos’ potential move from Rangers to Lille.
Morelos has been linked with a move to Ligue 1 side Lille recently and The Athletic has reported that the French club have already had a £13m bid rejected for the Colombian attacker.
After declaring that “Rangers want to sell Morelos,” Castles shared some information regarding this potential transfer during the latest edition of The Transfer Window podcast, saying: “My information is that Lille have agreed personal terms with Morelos and they also believed they had agreed a transfer fee with Rangers.
“I was told that Rangers initially asked [for] €12m for the player, Lille agreed to pay that, only for Rangers to increase their asking price to €13m, which I’m told Lille also agreed to pay, only for Rangers to step it up again and go two million more this time to €15m. I think in the context of the [Victor] Osimhen deal going through and realising that Lille had more money to play with than they expected – Lille again saying ‘okay we’ll pay 15’ and then Rangers asking for more money.
“The word in Scotland, at present – probably coming out of Rangers – is they’re looking for about €20m for the player. Lille are understandably getting a bit fed up with this negotiating process and what they consider the unprofessionalism of it and want it resolved this week, ideally, in the next day or two, otherwise they will go and sign an alternative target.”

If Castles’ information is to be believed, it appears as though Lille may be growing tired of negotiating Morelos’ transfer fee with the Gers and that may be understandable considering that the Glasgow-based club have continuously increased their asking price.
However, considering that, according to Castles, Rangers do “want to sell” the player and Lille were keen enough on Morelos to meet the Gers’ first three valuations of the Colombian forward, it does appear that both sides are interested in getting this deal done and that may be a sign that Morelos isn’t particularly likely to be at Ibrox for the 2020/21 campaign.
