The Daily Star recently published a report in which they claimed that Wigan Athletic goalkeeper David Marshall ‘is wanted by Celtic’.

As per the BBC, Wigan Athletic have become the first professional football club in England to go into administration following the beginning of the current viral outbreak.

Starting with an easy one- apart from Paris Saint-Germain, which other French club did Edouard play for?

After the Latics went into administration, the Daily Star published an article claiming that teams are already ‘circling over the troubled club’, with Wigan manager Paul Cook being linked with a move to Burnley should Sean Dyche leave the Clarets.

This report from the Daily Star also stated that ‘several’ Wigan players could also be set to depart from the club this summer – one of those being 35-year-old goalkeeper Marshall, who is thought to be on the Hoops’ radar.

Celtic might be in the market for a goalkeeper ahead of the 2020/21 season following Craig Gordon’s departure from Parkhead, as well as the recent revelation that Fraser Forster, who the Hoops had been ‘very confident’ of keeping at the club for next season following his spell on loan for the 2019/20 campaign, is set to stay and ‘fight for a place’ at Southampton next season.

TIF Thoughts…

While Celtic may be in the market for a goalkeeper this summer, 35-year-old Marshall may not be able to offer Celtic the desired level of quality to be an effective replacement for the recently departed Forster.

Marshall has earned a disappointing average overall rating of 6.40/10 from his 34 Championship appearances for the Latics this term. 20 Wigan players have earned a higher average overall rating than him in the league this season.

With that in mind, the report linking Celtic with a move for the Scotland international may not excite many Hoops fans as their club looks to replace Forster, who kept the joint-highest number of clean sheets in Scotland’s top tier last season.
