Celtic pundit Louis McCaffrey has given his opinion about the situation of the club’s defender Kristoffer Ajer recently.

During the latest episode of Celtic-related podcast, ‘The Cynic’, which is hosted by McCaffrey, the panel talked about many things involving the club’s approach in the transfer market. McCaffrey, though, chose to talk about Ajer and his situation at Parkhead currently.

Starting with an easy one- apart from Paris Saint-Germain, which other French club did Edouard play for?

Ajer’s former agent had told NTB (via Sporten) in an interview that the Norwegian will leave Celtic in the summer and wouldn’t renew his deal at the club but more recently, the defender changed his agent.

When talking about Ajer though, McCaffrey revealed that his situation isn’t easy to understand because of how he’s changed his agent.

He said: “I’ve got a real problem with players trying to get out or making sounds as if they want to leave. I know it was maybe his agent and he’s now no longer with that agent so, you know, it’s not black and white. You don’t really know how to read into it.”

Are Celtic fans angry at Ajer?

“But I think could we do better than Ajer? Probably. But I think continuity is going to be a big thing and on the theme of continuity obviously, pretty much a lot of our transfer focus [and the] real links are to these players that we had on loan – the likes of [Mohamed] Elyounoussi and [Fraser] Forster.”

Judging by these comments, it appears as though McCaffrey isn’t a fan of Ajer potentially seeking a move away from the club, but he thinks that Celtic might need continuity at this point to potentially seal their 10th Premiership title in a row next season.

TIF Thoughts…

While Ajer has now changed his agent, no one really knows what that means for Celtic and whether or not it is a confirmation of if he will stay at Parkhead.

The Norwegian featured regularly for the Hoops in the 2019/20 season. He made 49 appearances in all competitions, with 28 of them coming in the Premiership. Apart from playing at centre-back regularly, Ajer also played at right-back for the Hoops (via Transfermarkt).

Calciomercato has linked Ajer with a move to Milan, Leicester City and Paris Saint-Germain as well. While there has been some speculation about his future, the fact that he featured regularly for Celtic last season may show that he was an important player for the club and keeping him at Parkhead could help the Bhoys by way of maintaining some continuity in their squad, as McCaffrey suggested.
