Premiership giants Celtic are reportedly monitoring the situation of Newcastle United goalkeeper Freddie Woodman.

ChronicleLive recently reported that Woodman is on the Hoops’ shortlist this summer and the Glasgow-based club have held a long-term interest in the goalkeeper, though the report also doubts if Celtic can offer Woodman first-team football at this point.

Starting with an easy one- apart from Paris Saint-Germain, which other French club did Edouard play for?

This comes after Hoops boss Neil Lennon confirmed that Celtic are looking for a goalkeeper having failed in their efforts thus far to sign Fraser Forster on a permanent deal. While the Hoops had agreed a deal with Southampton, it had ‘gone quiet’ from the player’s side and talks have now stalled.

Woodman, who is currently valued at £2.88 million, has previously played in Scotland and has had spells with both Aberdeen and Kilmarnock, while he has spent the 2019/20 season on loan at Swansea City (via Transfermarkt).

TIF Thoughts…

Woodman might only be 23 years of age currently, but the fact that he would bring some Premiership experience with him arguably makes him an intriguing option for the Hoops. He has been a regular in goal for Swansea in the 2019/20 campaign, as he has made 41 appearances in the Championship, keeping 12 clean sheets.

Celtic may favour tried-and-tested options such as Forster as that trust factor may carry less risk as they seek a 10th successive title. However, Woodman could be a viable alternative option, as he’s a regular in the Championship and offers prior Premiership experience as well, so signing the 23-year-old may well turn out to be a wise move.
