Speaking recently on PLZ Soccer’s The Football Show, Alison McConnell discussed Rangers striker Alfredo Morelos’ behaviour since being linked with a move away from the club.

Since arriving at Rangers from HJK Helsinki in what was a £1.08 million deal back in 2017, Morelos has gone on to prove a huge hit at Ibrox, scoring 77 goals and providing 29 assists in just 137 appearances for the club.

Rangers fan? We bet you can't get 100% on this Rangers top goalscorers quiz. We'll start you off with an easy one... Who is Rangers' current top Scottish Premiership goalscorer this season?

Last season, once again, the 24-year-old had proven to be one of Rangers’ most important players, scoring 29 goals and providing 10 assists over his 46 appearances in all competitions, helping his side to finish second in the Scottish Premiership, as well as reaching the last 16 of the Europa League.

However, as a result of his fine form during his time in Glasgow, Morelos has been linked with a move away from the club, and, speaking on The Football Show, Alison McConnell suggested that Morelos could have had his heart set on a move since January, claiming that his behaviour is evidence of this.

She said: “I think you’d only have to look at his stats up until the turn of the year and then from January on – I think that would suggest that in January, he had his heart set on a move away. When it didn’t materialise, I think his focus is very much on the next step on his career now, and I think when it gets to that point, you almost have to just accept, take the best financial offer that you possibly can, and go and reinvest a percentage of that back into your playing staff.

“I think it very, very rarely works out well for a club when it’s clear that a player wants to go. And I think his behaviour – and he very rarely comes out and speaks publicly – but I think the comments that we’ve heard over the last year or so would suggest that he has come to the conclusion that his time at Rangers is up and that he’d like to go elsewhere.”

TIF Thoughts…

After looking at his stats since the turn of the year, as McConnell stated, Morelos has indeed been in slightly concerning form, as his only goal for the club in 2020 was in the SFA Cup.

Would you be happy to see Rangers sell Morelos for £15 million this summer?

As such, it may well be the right thing to do for Rangers to sell the £13.50 million-rated Morelos while they have interest in him, as he certainly looked a shadow of his former self for the second half of the season, which goes quite a long way to proving McConnell’s point.
