Taylor Rockwell and Daryl Grove discussed the latest transfer stories concerning footballers from the United States during a recent edition of The Athletic’s Total Soccer Show, with the pair spending some time discussing the reports linking Philadelphia Union centre-back Mark McKenzie with a move to Celtic

Last week, The Daily Record published a report claiming that the Hoops ‘are eyeing a move’ for McKenzie. The 21-year-old centre-back has made 37 senior appearances for Philadelphia Union during his career thus far and he also made his senior international bow for the United States’ squad earlier this year in a 1-0 win over Costa Rica

Starting with an easy one- apart from Paris Saint-Germain, which other French club did Edouard play for?

Ex-Scotland international Iain Munro, who has worked with Philadelphia Union’s academy ‘for over a decade’, as per The Daily Record, was full of praise for the defender after he was linked with a move to Parkhead. Munro has described McKenzie as a ‘Rolls-Royce of a player‘ and stated that he believes the defender ‘can go on to play at a high level‘.

Grove shared some positive thoughts on Celtic potentially making a move for the 21-year-old during this recent edition of the Total Soccer Show, saying: “I love the idea of Mark McKenzie going to Celtic. If you’re not familiar with Mark McKenzie, he really is a great centre-back.

“He is so good at getting around the other side of you and just getting to the ball first. He’s also really good with the ball, some really nice passing out of the back, and I think, maybe most importantly, he appears to be one of those natural leader-types.

“I think we’ve talked about this before, Tab Ramos took him to the U20 World Cup, even though he hadn’t fully recovered from an injury, just because it seems like his personality was such an important thing to have in the squad. So if anyone can go to Scotland and succeed, it feels like it could be Mark McKenzie.”

TIF Thoughts…

Judging by these comments, it appears as though Grove believes that McKenzie could offer Celtic plenty off the pitch as well as on the pitch, and the podcast host’s comments about the defender may excite Hoops fans about the prospect of their club making a move for the defender who is currently valued at £405k, according to Transfermarkt.
