Pundit Hugh MacDonald has been talking about Fraser Forster and has delivered his verdict about the situation of the goalkeeper.

MacDonald was recently present on the latest video of the PLZ Soccer – The Football Show Youtube channel and the panel talked about many things involving Scottish football. One thing they did discuss was the situation of Forster and whether he can still return to Parkhead or not.

Starting with an easy one- apart from Paris Saint-Germain, which other French club did Edouard play for?

STV had recently reported that Forster has decided to stay at Southampton and he wants to fight for his place at the club. This came as a blow to Celtic’s hopes of signing him.

MacDonald also had some discouraging words to say about the Englishman’s situation and whether he can still end up at Celtic.

He said: “I think it has gone ominously quiet on that. One [reason] is the expense. [Another] is [Ralph] Hasenhuttl at Southampton seems more amenable to give him another chance. The strongest thing’s the third thing – that the transfer window is going to stretch on a little bit now.

Will Forster snub Celtic for the Premier League?

No, he'll sign for us

Yes, he'll stay in the Premier League

Yes, he'll stay in the Premier League

“There’s going to be a chance for Forster to get an EPL job – a number-one starting job. There’s going to be a shuffling. You only have to look at [David] De Gea’s performance on Sunday to suggest that Dean Henderson, for example, might come back from Sheffield United to Manchester United.

“That would open up a position at Sheffield [United] for a Premier League goalkeeper, and it is that domino effect. I think Fraser will probably be sitting here now and saying, ‘you know what, there might be an EPL job for me as well’. In all honesty, I think that’s probably his top priority.”

MacDonald clearly feels that Forster could be aiming to play in the Premier League next season and believes that if Dean Henderson does return to Manchester United, Forster might be an option for the Blades in the summer and that is the domino effect which can lead to Forster getting a Premier League club next season.

TIF Thoughts…

Forster was on loan at Celtic in the 2019/20 season and during the campaign, he had been a regular for the Bhoys. He had made 39 appearances in all competitions for the Hoops, keeping as many as 17 clean sheets as well. In the Premiership, he had played every single game since joining (via Transfermarkt).

It was reported that the Hoops were working on a deal to sign the goalkeeper, but Neil Lennon had later confirmed that things ended up going quiet from the player’s end of the deal. This could indeed indicate that Forster might actually be looking to stay in the Premier League and considering how he was a regular for the Hoops last season, it could come as a blow to the Parkhead side.
