Football writer Alison McConnell believes Celtic can only keep hold of Fraser Forster if another loan deal is agreed or the player is willing to take a significant pay cut.
Forster spent the season on loan at Parkhead and made 28 appearances in the Scottish Premiership for Neil Lennon’s side. The Hoops were crowned champions back in May for the ninth consecutive time after the season was brought to a halt by the global pandemic and having started 100% of their league fixtures since his arrival, Forster’s contribution should not be overlooked.
According to Transfermarkt.co.uk, the Englishman is valued at £5.85m but McConnell appears to believe his wage demands could prove a major stumbling point in any negotiations to sign him permanently.
Speaking on the PLZ Soccer show, she said: “I think if there is going to be another season for him at Celtic then I would be convinced it would have to be a loan deal just because of the figures that have been mentioned in terms of his salary.
“I know it’s upwards of around £75,000 per week. Unless you’re [Forster] prepared to really take a massive wage drop I just don’t see how it can be done.”

TIF Thoughts…
McConnell believes that the Southampton goalkeeper would demand “upwards of around £75,000” per week which would prove problematic. If Forster were to be paid the quoted figure, his wages alone would blow their current salary structure out of the water. Therefore, we can understand why Celtic may be unable to meet the player’s demands unless he is willing to accept a significant wage cut.
