The Athletic journalist Tim Spiers has aired what he believes to be an ‘interesting dilemma’ for Wolverhampton Wanderers manager Nuno Espirito Santo.

This season, the Old Gold enjoyed another solid Premier League season as they secured a seventh-place finish in the top flight for the second season in a row (per Transfermarkt).

Nuno Santo’s outfit did show marginal improvement, too, as they secured two more points this season than they did last term.

However, in the latest episode of The Athletic’s The Molineux View podcast, Spiers questioned how the Portuguese manager would improve the side even further this summer.

To kick-off this quiz on Nuno Espirito Santo on the hard side, which club was his first game on the touchline at Molineux against?

He said: “It’s a really interesting dilemma for Nuno, right? Does he bank on further improvements? I think there’s still more to come from [Diogo] Jota, from [Ruben] Neves, a bit more from [Adama] Traore perhaps, and the likes of [Ruben] Vinagre as well [and] Jonny Castro Otto.

“So, is he going to rely on the further improvements that are potentially still to come from these guys? Or is he going to bring players in to replace them and put these guys back on the bench?

“We’ve seen how ruthless he’s been before with the likes of Barry Douglas, Helder Costa, Ivan Cavaleiro, even people like Leo Bonatini. These guys did a job in the Championship and then they were deemed not good enough for the Premier League, so Nuno’s got rid of them.

“So, now that’s his dilemma for the summer. Has Jota hit a ceiling? Has Neves hit a ceiling? Is this as good as Traore’s going to get?”

TIF Thoughts…

Seemingly, Spiers is unsure if the club will replicate their spending from last season which saw them plunge £109.62m into transfers last summer and in January (per Transfermarkt).

What do you think Nuno Espirito Santo will do in the transfer market this summer?

Considering it took a large outlay to secure the Old Gold only two extra points in the league this season, perhaps it would be worth seeing how current players develop next season.
