The Guardian’s Barry Glendenning has heaped praise on Wolverhampton Wanderers and aired his intrigue over what the future holds for the club.

Over the 2019/20 season, Nuno Espirito Santo’s outfit achieved a seventh-placed finish in the Premier League for the second season in a row.

Despite the Old Gold finishing the season two points better off than they did last term, the Molineux club are relying on Arsenal losing the FA Cup final to qualify for next season’s Europa League, though by remaining in the current competition, they are still in the running for a Champions League spot, too.

In the Monday’s edition of The Guardian’s Football Weekly podcast, though, Glendenning heaped praise on Wolves and stated that it is an exciting time for the supporters.

To kick-off this quiz on Nuno Espirito Santo on the hard side, which club was his first game on the touchline at Molineux against?

He said: “I think they’ve done tremendously well. They’re a terrific team of not necessarily big-name players – or certainly players who weren’t big-name players before they went to Wolves, particularly.

“They haven’t qualified for the Europa League, but they’re obviously still in this season’s Europa League, which if they win, they could qualify for the Champions League.

“I would love to see them get a clear run at a tilt for the top four next season. You know, if they weren’t in the Champions League rather than have the distraction of the Europa League.

“I know for them, it’s an enjoyable distraction because they haven’t been in it for so long, but they’re just a wonderful team on their day to watch and if I was a Wolves fan, I’d be very excited about what the future holds.”

TIF Thoughts…

Seemingly, the journalist believes that the Old Gold may have a better chance of qualifying for the Champions League through their league position next season if they are not in a European club competition.

Could Wolves have qualified for the Champions League this season if they weren't in the Europa League?

With at least one more Europa League fixture to play this season, the Old Gold have already played in 57 competitive fixtures this term across the Premier League, the Europa League, the FA Cup and the Carabao Cup (per Transfermarkt).

So, it would certainly be interesting to see how the Molineux outfit could have performed in the league without the extra 15 Europa League games they have played so far this season.
