Wolves journalist Joe Edwards has been discussing the possibility of a double summer transfer swoop for former Tottenham Hotspur defender Jan Vertonghen and Newcastle United winger Allan Saint-Maximin.

This comes after Edwards recently made an appearance on the E&S Wolves Podcast to discuss the latest news topics concerning the Midlands club.

On the topic of a potential move for Vertonghen, who is now a free agent after leaving Spurs, and Saint-Maximin, Edwards shared this update on the matter.

He said: “[There is] nothing [happening] that I’m aware of yet with those two. I think [Vertonghen] would be a big veer from Wolves’ transfer policy. I mean, there are exceptions to the rule, [Joao] Moutinho etc, but I don’t really see that one at the moment.”

Vertonghen spent eight years at Spurs before leaving as a free agent at the end of the 2019/20 Premier League season, making a total of 232 Premier League appearances during those eight years.

Saint-Maximin on the other hand only joined Newcastle back in the previous summer transfer window from OGC Nice for a fee of £16.2 million.

Which of these two players would you rather see at Wolves next season?

TIF Thoughts…

These are two very different players that Wolves have been linked with in recent weeks, with one being a veteran defender with bags of Premier League experience under his belt, and the other being a 23-year-old winger who has only had his first taste of playing in the top division of English football this season.

However, according to Edwards, there are no current plans in the works for either of the two players to make the move to Molineux this summer.
