The Athletic reporter Roshane Thomas has urged West Ham United to offer a new contract to their English attacker Michail Antonio.

This season, the 30-year-old has been the Irons’ best-performing player in the Premier League with a stellar 7.33/10 average rating (per WhoScored).

In the club’s last four matches, Antonio has been in especially imperious form as he has bagged six goals and one assist over those outings (per WhoScored).

However, at the moment, Antonio only has one year remaining on his contract at the London Stadium (via Transfermarkt).

So, in the latest episode of the U Irons podcast, Thomas urged the Hammers to get a new deal on the table for the Englishman straight away.

To start this quiz on Mark Noble with a tough one, in what year did the midfielder make his league debut for the Hammers?

He said: “They better offer him a new contract, otherwise I’ll start my own protest.

“Myself and Andy [Byrne] from Hammers United, we can start our own protest if they don’t give [him] a new contract.

“Honestly, his contract expires next summer [and] West Ham have a one-year option, but if I was West Ham, I’d offer him a contract right now, today.”

TIF Thoughts…

As can be seen in what the journalist had to say, he made no secret of his feelings that the club should be sitting down to discuss a new deal with Antonio in the near future.

Should West Ham offer Michail Antonio a new contract as soon as possible?

No, not just yet

No, not just yet

Considering that the 30-year-old is now the Irons’ top scorer in the league this season with eight goals after playing eight games fewer than Sebastien Haller, who has scored seven goals, surely a new deal to secure Antonio’s future with the Hammers would make sense.
