Journalist Daniel Storey has recently been critical of the ownership of West Ham during a recent appearance on the Totally Football Show podcast.

During the podcast, the panel talked about many things involving the Premier League and the weekend’s fixtures as Storey went on to address the Hammers and the manner in which they are run.

To start this quiz on Mark Noble with a tough one, in what year did the midfielder make his league debut for the Hammers?

Back in 2010, David Sullivan and David Gold had acquired a 50% stake in West Ham. By May of 2010, they had acquired a further 10%. David Moyes was initially sacked as the club’s manager at the end of the 2017/18 season, but he was re-appointed after the axing of Manuel Pellegrini.

While talking about the club’s ownership, Storey said: “I don’t think Moyes is the problem, I think he’s a representation of it. The fact that they boldly announced they were moving in a different direction and didn’t see him as the future, to then appoint him again 18 months later, doesn’t say a great deal for the club’s long-termism or their imagination. They constantly talk of West Ham about trying to replicate this RB Leipzig/RB Salzburg model of being the club that brings players through and develops youth talent.

Should Gold and Sullivan leave West Ham?

Yes, they deserve to go

Yes, they deserve to go

No, they should stay

No, they should stay

“And I suppose that reflects back to historical reputation, but it just doesn’t stand up at all. They generally buy ageing players or expensive imports. And there are already rumours that they’re looking at, for example, Phil Jones and Jesse Lingard in the summer. And if you were going to ask which club those two players will probably end up at, you would probably guess West Ham or Everton, who at the moment, feel like two of the worst-run clubs in the league.

“I just think it comes down to the owner and the chief executive. West Ham fans already know this, but there’s just such a stunning demand to say the right thing and to shout loudly and to make bold promises and never back them up with action.”

Clearly, Storey seems to believe that West Ham aren’t going in the right direction. He feels that the owners do promise a lot to the fans, but they never back them properly.

TIF Thoughts…

Since Gold and Sullivan took over the club in some capacity back in 2010, West Ham have finished inside the top ten of the Premier League only on a couple of occasions. They even finished rock-bottom of the league in the 2010-11 campaign and had to climb back to the Premier League later on (via Transfermarkt).

They even finished 16th last season and that is exactly where they are in the league currently. The fact that Moyes was sacked by the club in 2018 to make way for Pellegrini and then it was Moyes himself who returned after the Chilean departed shows that the club is indeed run in a plan-less manner.
