The We Are West Ham Podcast pundit Tom Edwards has aired his belief that West Ham United should sell French striker Sebastien Haller.
Last summer, the Hammers secured the arrival of the forward from Eintracht Frankfurt for a club-record fee of £45m (per BBC).
Since then, though, the 26-year-old attacker has scored just seven goals in 32 Premier League appearances for the Irons (per Transfermarkt).
So, in the latest episode of the We Are West Ham Podcast, Edwards aired his belief that if the right offer comes in for the forward, he should be sold.
He said: “Haller, I think we shouldn’t sell him for less than we bought him, but if we did even recoup exactly what we bought [him for], I’d probably let him go.
“Not because he’s a bad player, but because he’s never going to suit a [David] Moyes team.
“Moyes has never, ever had just a hold-up player other than Duncan Ferguson, who was up there with [Kevin] Campbell or someone else was up there with him.
“He’s never had just an out-and-out nine who backs people up. He’s always had an athlete up there, and I think he just probably won’t work under Moyes.”
TIF Thoughts…
With the French forward not having started a game for West Ham since the Premier League resumed play, it may be a fair assumption from Edwards that the striker “won’t work under Moyes”.
Do you think that West Ham should sell Sebastien Haller this summer?
No, he should stay
Yes, he should go
However, with Haller, who is valued at £32.4 million (as per Transfermarkt), having been the Irons’ third-best performer this season with a 7.08/10 average rating (per WhoScored), it is clear that the attacker has talent.
This would also vindicate what the podcast pundit had to say, though, as he stated his belief that the Frenchman was not a bad player, he is just no longer suitable for the Hammers.
So, it will certainly be interesting to see what does happen with Haller this summer.
