Hammers insider @ExWHUemployee has stated that West Ham United could reignite their interest in Brighton & Hove Albion defender Shane Duffy.
As stated in a recent report by the Brighton & Hove Independent, it seems as though the experienced centre-back is set to leave the Seagulls this summer.
Meanwhile, it has previously been touted by @ExWHUemployee back in December that the Irons were keen to acquire the services of the defender (via Hammers News).
So, in the latest episode of The West Ham Way podcast, the in-the-know journalist stated that the Hammers could be set to reignite their interest in the 28-year-old defender.
He said: “In the past, I’ve mentioned him. We’ve been interested in him before at one point, I think it might have even been in January this year.
“We were actually very close to signing him. So, I’d imagine that there might be a strong chance; it wouldn’t surprise me.
“I think he’s probably the sort of thing we need, a sort of old-fashioned centre-back that’s going to get his head in places.
“Also, I think he would come as homegrown, just from memory. He started his career at Everton, so, I think he would count as a homegrown defender, which we’re going to need to keep our homegrown [quota].”
TIF Thoughts…
As can be seen in what @ExWHUemployee had to say, he clearly believes that there is a chance that the Hammers could resume their interest in signing the defender.
Would you want West Ham to sign Shane Duffy from Brighton?
Yes, he'd be a good option
No, he's not good enough
While Duffy, who is valued at £8.55 million (per Transfermarkt), has only made 19 Premier League appearances for Brighton this season, he has still delivered a relatively respectable 6.71/10 average rating (per WhoScored).
The same rating for the Irons this season would have made the Irishman the 11th-best performer in their squad (per WhoScored), so, it seems possible that he could do a job for West Ham.
