West Ham United are reportedly interested in signing River Plate right-back Gonzalo Montiel this summer.

This comes after it was published by @VarskySports (via @whufc_news) that Montiel will likely join the Hammers for a fee around €7 million (£6.3 million) if they manage to avoid relegation this season.

However, Sport Witness has reported that the fee could be in the region of £10-11 million.

To start this quiz on Mark Noble with a tough one, in what year did the midfielder make his league debut for the Hammers?

The 23-year-old has made a total of 91 appearances for River Plate in which he has managed to score one goal and provide seven assists.

This season has seen the Argentine make 20 appearances for the club across all competitions in which he has provided three assists (per Transfermarkt).

Montiel’s performances in his 19 Superliga appearances this season have resulted in him being awarded a season rating of 7.02/10 (per WhoScored)

This rating would make Montiel West Ham’s fourth-highest-rated player in the current Premier League campaign.

TIF Thoughts…

With Jeremy Ngakia and Pablo Zabaleta having left the club at the end of June, it would seem like the appropriate move for the London club to try and sign Montiel to replace the departed right-backs.

If Montiel were to make the move to the London Stadium this summer, he could be a good fit to help improve West Ham’s defensive issues.

WhoScored claims that some of West Ham’s weaknesses include their inability to keep possession of the ball, their inability to defend against attacks down the wings and their inability to protect a lead over their opponents.

WhoScored also claims that some of Montiel’s strengths include his passing skills, his concentration during matches and his ability to hold on to the ball.

However, West Ham will surely be focusing more on staying in the Premier League as they take on their remaining fixtures instead of making transfer deals.
