It has been reported that West Ham United could sign Wigan Athletic’s Antonee Robinson for a cut-price fee due to the Championship club going into administration.

Last week, it was announced that the second-tier outfit had gone into administration and they are likely to be on the receiving end of a 12-point deduction (per BBC).

Wigan are currently just six points above the relegation zone with five games left to play and a 12-point deduction would see them go bottom of the table.

To start this quiz on Mark Noble with a tough one, in what year did the midfielder make his league debut for the Hammers?

As revealed by Alan Nixon, though, should Athletic be relegated, then Robinson will be available for just £1.5m.

While Nixon makes no mention of the Irons, a report from The Mirror, as cited by Claret and Hugh, draws the link between the club and the player, as well as interest elsewhere from West Brom and Leicester City.

The reported fee would represent quite the drop from the £6m fee that had been agreed with AC Milan in January for the player’s transfer before the deal fell through (per BBC).

Wigan’s 22-year-old currently has two years left on his contract at the DW Stadium and a market value of £3.15m, according to Transfermarkt.

TIF Thoughts…

When considering his market value and the fact that it is over double of what the reported fee for the transfer would be, the deal seems like it would be a solid one for the Irons.

In January, a deal with AC Milan fell through due to the detection of an irregular heart rhythm during his medical with the Serie A giants (per BBC).

However, following treatment, the defender no longer needs any further medical attention on the heart issue (per BBC).

Would you be happy with the signing of Antonee Robinson form Wigan Athletic?

Yes, he's a good player

Over 33 appearances for Wigan this season, the American has shown his class as he has picked up a strong 7.04/10 average rating (per WhoScored).

While he has achieved that rating in the league below the Premier League, had Robinson earned the same average rating for the Hammers this term, he would have been their fourth-best performer (per WhoScored).

So, considering the defender’s impressive season and the reported low fee that it would take to get Robinson to the London Stadium, the move is certainly one that could make financial sense for David Moyes.
