Steve Nicol has been speaking on a recent episode of the ESPN FC podcast about the ban that Eric Dier received from the FA for going into the stands and confronting a fan during Tottenham’s FA Cup defeat to Norwich City in March.

How well do you remember Heung-Min Son's time with Spurs? - The Lilywhites signed Son from which Bundesliga side?

Nicol discussed other things, but he spent a little bit of time on the ban that Dier received, and it seems as if he feels that the 26-year-old has got away with one.

Here is what he had to say about the Dier situation.

“What a lucky boy, four games!

“I mean, you can get three games for breaking somebody’s leg during a game.

“I think he’s very fortunate to get four games. As professionals, there are certain things that you don’t need [to be] told you cannot do, and one of them is [to] go into the stand and confront a supporter – for any reason whatsoever.

“You do not do it.”

It seems as if Nicol believes that Dier has got away with one and should consider himself lucky.

TIF Thoughts…

Do you think Dier's ban was harsh?

Yes

No

No

The incident between Dier and the fan occurred because the 26-year-old’s brother was confronted and Dier stepped in to help.

Now it seems as if the FA took a dim view of that, and Dier will only be available for Spurs’ last match of the season against Crystal Palace.

However, Nicol seems to have no sympathy for Dier, and the ESPN pundit actually seems to think that the 26-year-old should have been banned for longer.

This seems like a harsh view, and it doesn’t feel as if he is taking the whole situation into account.

Either way, Dier was punished and handed a ban that the FA felt was suitable.
