On the latest episode of the Last Word On Spurs podcast, Ricky Sacks, Michael Bridge, Ricky Norwood and Lee McQueen have been reacting to Spurs’ 2-1 win against Arsenal last weekend, and looking ahead to Wednesday’s clash with Newcastle United.
One topic of conversation on the recent episode, which was titled: ‘Spurs Silence Arsenal‘, was the performance of Toby Alderweireld in the derby win. The Belgian international headed a late winner for the Lilywhites to cap off an impressive display, which saw him earn a 7.58/10 rating for his performance.
Here’s what Norwood had to say about the former Atletico Madrid defender:
“To see Toby come in, to sign a new contract, to miss the restart games, to see [Eric] Dier get some accolades and see him play well and then to come in and be so professional and be a leader and almost be the captain; to almost have captain performances [in] the last couple of games, it was great to see that.”
TIF Thoughts…
Alderweireld has certainly impressed on his return to the starting eleven, also earning a 7.13 rating for his performance in the 0-0 draw against Bournemouth last week, and also helped Spurs to a clean sheet in the 1-0 win against Everton.
Have you been impressed with Alderweireld's recent performances?
Yes
No
With Dier still banned, you would expect the £21.6 million-rated man to keep his spot at centre-back for the game against Newcastle United later this week, with Spurs no doubt eyeing up a Europa League spot, with the Champions League now perhaps out of their reach.
