In the latest video on his YouTube channel, Football.london journalist Alasdair Gold has been discussing the latest goings-on at Tottenham Hotspur, reflecting on the 3-0 win against Leicester City last weekend, as well as some members of Jose Mourinho’s squad and looking at some potential transfers the north London club could complete this summer.

One topic of conversation on the recent video was Beijing Guoan centre-back and reported Spurs transfer target Kim Min-jae. It has been suggested that the Lilywhites are keen to sign the 23-year-old South Korean international this summer, although the Chinese side are expected to demand £15 million for his signature.

How well can you remember Spurs' season so far? - Who did Spurs beat in the opening fixture?

Here’s what Gold had to say about Spurs’ chances of signing Min-jae this summer:

“I do know they are looking at Kim Min-jae, a South Korean, talented 23-year-old. [He’s a] big lad, named ‘the monster’, he plays in Beijing at the moment in the Chinese Super League. They certainly have made inquiries about him, so I think with him, it’s probably more of another body, but also a potential developing player. Beijing [Guoan], they’re talking about £15-20 million. Beijing don’t want to lose him, that’s been a real sticking point.

“I’ve spoken to South Korean football experts, Sungmo Lee in particular, and he said this guy is like one of these ‘generational’ players. He said he is the best defender South Korea have produced in this century, and he said he would easily be the best Asian defender to have played in the Premier League. So they’ve got real high hopes for him.”

TIF Thoughts…

It certainly sounds promising from what Gold says that Min-jae could join the Lilywhites this summer. The 23-year-old has been a regular for the South Korean national side, alongside Heung-min Son, having made 30 caps for the Taeguk Warriors thus far.

It will be interesting to see if Spurs meet the Chinese side’s reported asking price for the centre-back this summer, and perhaps he could prove to be the ideal replacement for Jan Vertonghen, with the Belgian’s contract set to expire following the final game of the season at the weekend.
