On the latest episode of the Last Word On Spurs podcast, Ricky Sacks, Lee McQueen, Jamie Brown and Daniel Merriman have been discussing the latest goings-on at Tottenham Hotspur and looking ahead to the final game of the season against Crystal Palace.

One topic of conversation on the recent episode, which was titled ‘Finishing Strong‘, was Spurs defender Japhet Tanganga. It has been suggested that the 21-year-old is set to sign a new long-term deal in north London.

The academy graduate has enjoyed a breakthrough season with the Lilywhites, having made 11 appearances in all competitions, six of which came in the Premier League; where he has averaged an impressive 7.00 rating (per WhoScored).

How well can you remember Spurs' season so far? - Who did Spurs beat in the opening fixture?

Here’s what McQueen had to say about the possibility of Tanganga signing a new deal:

“It’s massive for the club. We love one of our own. Japhet has come through the academy, come through the system, he’s one of our own. I think one of the quotes he said after the Liverpool game when he made his debut, he said I absolutely adore this club, it was an utter dream come true, I just want to be here forever and play for Tottenham Hotspur.

“There is no way on this planet Japhet Tanganga is not signing that contract. They could put £2,000 a week in front of him and he’d probably still sign it. That is a done deal, he’s going to get a bumper pay rise and rightly so. He’s going to be a stalwart in Tottenham Hotspur for the next five, six, seven years or so.”

TIF Thoughts…

McQueen certainly seems confident that Tanganga will sign a new contract with the Lilywhites, and fans will no doubt be hoping to see the youngster tied down to a new deal with the club after his impressive performances this season. You would perhaps expect the 21-year-old to feature even more regularly next season when you consider that Jan Vertonghen is reportedly set to leave following Spurs’ final game of the season against Crystal Palace on Sunday.

McQueen is clearly hoping to see big things from the academy graduate and hopefully, for Spurs fans, an announcement of his new contract will come shortly.
