On the latest episode of the Extra Inch podcast, Chris Miller and Nathan Clark have been reflecting on Spurs’ 2019/20 campaign and looking ahead to next season, with a discussion of some of the players that could leave or join the north London club this summer.

One topic of discussion on the recent episode, which was titled ‘So Long, Super Jan‘, was Norwich City right-back Max Aarons. Spurs have regularly been linked with a move for the 20-year-old in the past and following the Canaries’ relegation from the Premier League, Miller seems to think that now is the right time to bring in the Englishman.

How well can you remember Spurs' season so far? - Who did Spurs beat in the opening fixture?

Here’s what he had to say about Aarons during a discussion about possible transfer targets from relegated sides and why he thinks Spurs should sign him this summer:

“Then you start looking at positions you can upgrade on and the obvious one is Max Aarons – can play right-back better than Serge Aurier. I’m not hugely sold on Aarons, but I would agree that he’s an upgrade on Aurier.”

TIF Thoughts…

It perhaps seems harsh to suggest that Aarons is an upgrade on Aurier when you consider that the Ivory Coast international averaged a 7.06 rating for his performances in the most recent Premier League season, which is far superior to Aarons’ disappointing 6.55 average rating.

However, he could still prove to be a worthwhile signing for the Lilywhites, especially when you consider that fellow right-back Kyle Walker-Peters is being linked with a permanent move to Southampton, so bringing in the Norwich man would provide cover for Aurier and add to Mourinho’s squad depth.

It will be interesting to see if Spurs make an official bid for the £18 million-rated man this summer, and whether he would be able to displace Aurier from Spurs’ first-team next season.
