In the latest video for his YouTube channel, Football.london journalist Alasdair Gold has been discussing the latest goings-on at Tottenham Hotspur, reflecting on the 3-0 win against Leicester City last weekend, as well as some members of Jose Mourinho’s squad, and looking at some potential transfers the north London club could complete this summer.

A player Gold briefly touched upon was Norwich City midfielder Todd Cantwell. The 22-year-old has been one of the Canaries’ stand-out players in a dreadful Premier League campaign that has seen them relegated from the top-flight, with the Englishman their second top-scorer, with six goals to his name (per WhoScored).

How well can you remember Spurs' season so far? - Who did Spurs beat in the opening fixture?

Spurs have been linked with the Norwich magician in the past, and now that Daniel Farke’s side will be spending next season in the Championship, perhaps a summer move could be on the cards for the youngster.

Gold hinted that Tottenham have previous in buying from relegated sides, citing Kieran Trippier’s switch from Burnley following the Clarets’ demotion in 2014/15 – before noting Spurs’ interest in Cantwell as they could be preparing to do something similar this summer.

Here’s what Gold had to say about Cantwell in his video:

“I think in terms of other transfers, it’s going to be really interesting to see relegated clubs. I think a lot of clubs will try and take advantage [of] the financial issues. Obviously Norwich, some good defenders there, you have players in a relegated team who, in another team, would be perfect. Trippier obviously went down with Burnley, he proved to be a really good right-back for Tottenham. So if that’s the case with [Max] Aarons, [Ben] Godfrey… Cantwell is a player Spurs have looked at.”

TIF Thoughts…

Considering the financial implications of the current viral outbreak, it would perhaps not be a surprise to see some relegated teams cashing in on their more valuable players this summer. Cantwell is currently valued at £18 million by Transfermarkt, and perhaps Spurs would be able to bring him in on a cut-price deal this summer.

Would Cantwell be a good signing for Spurs?

The 22-year-old has shown that he can perform in the Premier League, having contributed six goals and two assists in the top-flight, despite Norwich’s obvious troubles, so perhaps it would be worth bringing him to the north London club this summer.
