On the latest episode of the Last Word On Spurs podcast, Ricky Sacks, Lee McQueen, Alasdair Gold and Darren Lewis have been reflecting on the north London club’s season and looking ahead to the 2020/21 campaign.

One topic of conversation on the recent episode, which was titled ‘Spurs Secure Europe‘, was Spurs midfielder Tanguy Ndombele and his future with the north London club. The Frenchman joined the Lilywhites from Lyon in a club-record deal last summer, but has already been linked with a move away, following a disastrous debut campaign, which saw him regularly struggle with injury and fitness issues.

How well can you remember Spurs' season so far? - Who did Spurs beat in the opening fixture?

Here’s what Gold had to say about the 23-year-old on the podcast:

“He’s such a talent. He is following a pattern, unfortunately, in his career – at every club, they’ve always said, ‘incredible talent, but just doesn’t have the consistency’. That’s behind the scenes as well, and I think Spurs don’t want to give up on him. There’s been a real strong kind of word out of Spurs that they’ve got no interest in selling him his summer.

“I think the only way you see that happening is if he just kicks up such a stink, that essentially it becomes almost toxic that he’s there. I do think there’s a feeling within the club that the people around him don’t make it particularly easy for him and he’s getting conflicting views. [Jose] Mourinho’s said enough, this guy’s a fantastic talent, he’s just got to bring the rest of his game.”

TIF Thoughts…

Gold clearly believes that Ndombele still has a future with Spurs and just needs to work on his consistency if he’s going to make it in the Premier League. The Frenchman only managed to complete 90 minutes on five occasions in all competitions this season, suggesting that his fitness was perhaps the root of his problem.

Do you think Ndombele will come good next season?

With a full pre-season under his belt, perhaps we will see the former Lyon man come out of his shell at Tottenham next season and really start to show why Spurs paid so much for him last summer.
