A Saudi-based sports show host has recently featured on an episode of NUFC Matters with Steve Wraith and other guests.

Starting with an easy one, against which club did Shelvey make his Newcastle debut?

In the episode, the panel discussed all of the issues surrounding the proposed takeover of Newcastle United by Amanda Staveley’s Saudi-backed consortium.

During this discussion, journalist Christopher Argyris spoke highly about the Premier League wanting to find a solution to this whole saga.

He said: “Give the Premier League a little credit for working for four months with the buyers and sellers to iron out all the bumps and to find a solution where everyone comes away a winner.”

This then led to Alwaleed, who is based in Riyadh, stating his confidence that the Premier League would pass the deal.

“I don’t believe the Premier League are going to reject the deal, we didn’t wait four months, and then after four months they just say ‘no’, I don’t think this will happen.

“I think they will approve it soon.”

So, it seems that Alwaleed is confident that the PL will eventually pass the deal in the near future.

TIF Thoughts…

The deal was handed to the Premier League in April after a deposit was paid to Mike Ashley, and since then, it has been looked at by the authorities.

However, the bid has now stalled, according to reports, with the Premier League wanting answers on the structure of the deal and where the balance of power lies.

This, though, has not worried Argyris and Alwaleed, who seem to feel that because of the length of time that this has taken, the PL is looking for a solution that will allow them to pass this takeover.

The immediate problem is that the Toon are in limbo and arguably need a decision as soon as possible, but for the hopes of the takeover, it seems as if the PL is trying to find a resolution – and that can only be a good thing.
