Kris Wallace from the Gallowgate Shots YouTube channel recently featured as a guest on the Last Word On Spurs podcast, previewing the Newcastle United vs Tottenham Hotspur fixture that is set to take place on Wednesday

The Toon fan was less than complimentary about Steve Bruce in his match preview, however, and suggested that the 59-year-old shouldn’t be given praise for simply avoiding relegation.

Wallace also appeared perplexed to discover that the Magpies boss has been tipped as a potential contender for the Manager of the Year award.

Starting with an easy one, against which club did Shelvey make his Newcastle debut?

Here’s what he had to say about the former Manchester United defender on the podcast:

“We’ve got Steve Bruce there who [is] rumoured to be linked with the Manager of the Year’s job and if he’s even in that lineup, we’ve got really serious issues with the rest of the managers in the Premier League. I’m not sure how much you would have heard about what’s happened with Steve Bruce and the comments that he’s getting through the media channels, so Sky Sports and the likes of BT Sport. I keep going out and seeing that Bruce has done an amazing job, [a] fantastic job, and that’s not the case, he’s done a bang-average job.

“It’s just typical Newcastle United. Our aim at the very start of the season is to stay up, it’s not to compete or anything like that, it’s just not to get relegated. So if we’re looking at not getting relegated as doing a fantastic job and going down that route, it’s shocking.”

TIF Thoughts…

We can understand this Newcastle fan’s frustration, as although the Toon currently sit in 13th position, ahead of Wednesday’s game, they have scored just 36 goals in 35 games so far this Premier League season (per BBC), so you could argue that it has been far from exciting.

Has Bruce done a good job this season?

It has been suggested that if the current proposed takeover of the club goes through, then Bruce could be replaced with someone such as Mauricio Pochettino, which would no doubt delight Wallace based on his clear dislike of the current Toon boss.
