Michael Chopra has been on a recent episode of NUFC Matters with Steve Wraith and has provided his confident view on the proposed takeover of Newcastle United.

Starting with an easy one, against which club did Shelvey make his Newcastle debut?

Chopra spent a bit of time on the takeover and used that time to cement his belief that Amanda Staveley’s Saudi-backed consortium will get the go-ahead from the Premier League to replace Mike Ashley as owners of the Toon.

Here is what he had to say on the takeover:

“If it happens at the end of the season, so be it, but I’m still fully expecting it to go ahead like yourself and like the people that are buying the club.

“There’s no reason why it shouldn’t go ahead.”

Chopra sounds very confident that this is the end of Ashley, and Staveley’s group will become the new owners of the Toon.

TIF Thoughts…

The former Newcastle striker sounds pretty bullish in his assertions that this takeover is happening; however, considering the process started in April, there are clearly problems that have prevented the PL from passing the deal.

The main issue was thought to be piracy, and then Saudi Arabia announced a crackdown that was hoped would end this saga, but nothing happened.

It was then reported last week that the PL was ready to accept the takeover, but then Saudi Arabia announced they had permanently blocked BeIN Sports.

It is unclear what this has meant for the takeover, but it drew a cutting response from BeIN.

Chopra still sounds confident (3:53), so it will be interesting to see if he was right to be so confident whenever the Premier League finally decide.
