Liam Kennedy of the Shields Gazette has been discussing the proposed takeover of Newcastle United on a recent episode of NUFC Matters with Steve Wraith.

The Premier League are yet to give the proposed takeover by the Saudi-backed consortium the green light and as far as we’re aware, the owners’ and directors’ test process is still yet to be concluded despite it beginning back in April. It’s understood that the aforementioned process normally takes anywhere up to four weeks but it appears that Kennedy has taken encouragement from the fact the proposal is yet to be rejected. Here is what he had to say on the matter:

“If you were intent on blocking something, why would you continue a Q&A, continue communications with buyers for sixteen and a half weeks, now? That’s what we’re standing at. To me, there has got to be some hope in that, this is something that they want to resolve. They haven’t come at this as a closed book, they do want new investment in the Premier League. We’re talking about a little bit of a block in the road. We’ve gone too far, there has been a lot of money spent. I would suspect that there will be a resolution.”

Starting with an easy one, against which club did Shelvey make his Newcastle debut?

TIF Thoughts…

Given the opposition this proposed deal has faced in recent months, perhaps as Kennedy suggests,  the supporters can take some encouragement from the fact the Premier League have yet to reject the deal.

Are you confident there will be a positive resolution to the takeover saga?

Yes

No

No

In our view, the complications regarding, in particular, the piracy dispute and the human rights issues raised have led to the authorities having to be a lot more thorough in their investigations, therefore, making it impossible to directly compare this situation with any the Premier League may have previously dealt with.
