Ian McGarry has been speaking on the latest episode of The Transfer Window podcast about the proposed takeover of Newcastle United.

Starting with an easy one, against which club did Shelvey make his Newcastle debut?

McGarry left most of the talking on the situation at Newcastle to Duncan Castles but did provide a possible reason for why the Premier League is taking so long to make a decision on the deal.

He claimed that the PL may be waiting for Amanda Staveley’s court case with Barclays Bank to be concluded before making a decision on the takeover she is leading.

Here is what he had to say:

“It may be the case that the Premier League will await until that court case is resolved [to] make a decision with regards to the takeover being approved.”

Castles then added that if this was true, then Toon fans would be in for a long wait before this situation is resolved.

“If that is the case, then Newcastle United fans are probably in for a very long wait, because the evidence hasn’t been completed in that court case, and I’m told that the judge, once evidence has been completed, can take up to six months to make a decision on the case.”

McGarry is just making a suggestion because he feels that some evidence could come out that might embarrass PCP, Staveley, and the Premier League if they approved the takeover before this court case was completed.

Do you think this is true?

No, I certainly hope not

Yes, wouldn't surprise me the way this has gone

TIF Thoughts…

Considering the state that Newcastle find themselves in after the Premier League started looking over this takeover in April, it is hard to imagine how bad a shape the club would be in if this went on for another six months.

We really hope that McGarry’s claim is not true because Newcastle are in enough trouble as it is and if the PL allowed this to go on for an extra six months then the possible consequences might not even be worth thinking about.
