George Caulkin has been on the latest episode of the Pod On The Tyne podcast and has been discussing the proposed takeover of Newcastle United.

Starting with an easy one, against which club did Shelvey make his Newcastle debut?

The Athletic reporter talked about various topics, but he dedicated a bit of time to the takeover attempt led by Amanda Staveley’s Saudi-backed consortium.

Caulkin also revealed details of how the talks between the Premier League and the buying side have developed over the last few weeks.

Here is what he had to say on that:

“They’re [Staveley’s consortium] still having their usual conversations internally albeit it has been quiet, noticeably sort of quiet in the last couple of weeks.

“I hope that’s a good sign, but that’s about it, really.”

It seems as if the talks are still going on between the Premier League and the consortium, though the fact that they have quietened down could signify that the PL is close to a decision.

Is this a good sign for the takeover?

TIF Thoughts…

It was claimed earlier in the week that the PL was close to announcing a decision on this takeover.

Still, Saudi Arabia then announced that it was blocking BeIN Sports in the country, and it is unclear what this will mean for the takeover.

The deal for Staveley’s consortium to buy Newcastle from Mike Ashley has been with the Premier League for 16 weeks, and the Toon are now a club in limbo, so need a decision either way.

Hopefully, the fact that questions have quietened down is a sign that the PL is close to ending this saga one way or another.
