George Caulkin has been speaking on the latest episode of The Athletic’s Pod On The Tyne, and has been discussing the proposed takeover of Newcastle United.
The Athletic reporter spent time on other topics, but a lot of time was spent on the proposed takeover of Newcastle that is dragging on.
It seems that one of the reasons why it has gone on so long is down to the Saudi element of Amanda Staveley’s consortium.
This is what he had to say on the process and the role the Saudis have played in it:
“Everything that goes to the Saudi side becomes very, very laborious because it has to be checked and double-checked – apparently it is the way they do business.
“Some of the reason for this taking so long is because of that it’s been very protracted getting answers.”
This is an interesting reveal from Caulkin, and it seems that maybe the Premier League is not totally at fault for this taking so long.

The deal for Staveley’s consortium to buy Newcastle has been with the Premier League since April after a deposit was paid to Mike Ashley.
However, since then, nothing has happened, and it seems that one of the reasons it has been so slow is because the Saudi part of the consortium have taken so long to provide their answers to questions put to them by the Premier League.
The transfer window is fast approaching, and Newcastle are in limbo with it unclear who the club’s owners will be, but there needs to be a decision soon before this situation causes damage to the football club.
