Will Shearer, the son of Newcastle United legend Alan Shearer, recently took to Twitter to react to the news that the consortium including Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund (PIF), PCP Capital Partners, and the Reuben brothers has pulled out of its Newcastle United takeover bid.
Sky Sports reported that this Saudi-backed takeover was ‘nearing completion’ back in April after the would-be buyers ‘paid a deposit and exchanged contracts with club owner Mike Ashley.’
The deal was reportedly going through the Premier League’s checks back in April and while those checks are said to normally take just weeks to reach completion, the group behind this particular takeover bid were still waiting for the English top-flight’s approval to complete this takeover months later and according to the BBC, ‘PIF ran out of patience’ with the Premier League and the deal is now off.
Shearer took to Twitter after this news broke to post a tweet which read: “We’ve got no hope” and plenty of Newcastle fans responded to his post to react to this news.

One Newcastle fan declared that he ‘won’t be going back’ to watch Newcastle United next season following this news and another Toon supporter shared that he believes the Toon will be relegated next season in response to this tweet.
Home and away for 30 years and that’s it for me. Wont be going back. Totally pointless.

It had been reported that the group behind this takeover would be the wealthiest club owners in the Premier League if the takeover had gone through.
With that in mind, as well as the fact that the club’s current owner Mike Ashley has been unpopular throughout his tenure at St. James’ Park, it may be understandable why these Toon fans are upset following the news that this takeover is off.
