A lot of Newcastle United fans have replied to a post from Keith Downie who reveals news from a high level source at St James’ Park. The source confirmed that the club had no idea that Amanda Staveley’s Saudi-backed consortium was going to pull out of the takeover deal.
It was confirmed on Thursday that the Toon’s proposed takeover by Staveley’s group was off, and the group issued a statement explaining why they had pulled out.
It seems as if the main issue was the time the deal was taking to complete, as well as ‘global uncertainty’ – while Staveley said in a separate interview that she was heartbroken with what had happened.
It seems these Toon fans have similar sorts of feelings about the situation after the Sky Sports man shared the revelation on Twitter.
Do you believe anything coming from the club?
No
Yes
Does anyone think that the Premier League tipped off PiF & co that they were going to fail them on the O&D test and gave them the option to save face by pulling out????
Its just a thought, I’m gutted beyond believe and just don’t get the timing. Someone explain this to me.— Bernie (@BernieSimpson73) July 30, 2020
Keith I am a fan of you but that’s all I have heard for months is sources. There is clearly snakes involved at the @premierleague NDA is that for a reason. I can’t wait for the day they get investigated cos it will happen one day.

It was obvious something like this could happen weeks ago. It took too long simple as that. The @premierleague are so inadequate it stinks.

If course it has. Patience would run out with the window open and the @premierleague dragging their feet

The deal for Staveley’s group was agreed with Mike Ashley in April and a deposit was paid to him; however, nothing has happened since then, and it looks like the group decided that they couldn’t wait any longer and have pulled out.
This post from Downie continued to draw Toon fans, who are clearly annoyed, but some feel that the consortium can’t be blamed for walking away.
Can’t blame them though. This was the premier leagues desired scenario from the start

They were getting disrespected by the premier league, enough is enough they couldn’t come out with a decision. I hope they buy an Italian club and make them the best club in the world and the premier league need to watch

Ashley should be over the moon Keith, he gets over £17 million and he can now get the £350, million that Richard Keys says Mauriss was going to buy nufc for….. YEAH THAT ????

Shambolic if that’s true https://t.co/0vRkWauZvP

The deal had stalled over the last week with it said that the Premier League wanted assurances over the structure of the deal and where the balance of power was going to lie.
Then on Thursday afternoon, the news broke that Newcastle’s takeover was off, and the club are now stuck with Mike Ashley, though The Times’ Henry Winter does believe there is other interest in the club.
It remains to be seen what happens with that, but for now, the Toon will just have to try and continue as a club.
