Some Newcastle United supporters have been reacting to a tweet that was posted by Toon news Twitter account @NUFC360 which shared a claim that was made in a recent article from The Telegraph.
The Telegraph recently published an article discussing Premier League chief executive Richard Masters’ comments about the ongoing Saudi-backed Newcastle United takeover bid that he made when he was recently questioned about the deal by MPs and this article states that the Premier League chief ‘’revealed that a decision on the £300million takeover of Newcastle United is imminent.’
Furthermore, as this tweet explains, The Telegraph’s recent article also stated that talks are continuing between the Premier League and Newcastle’s would-be owners ‘over the make-up of the proposed ownership of Newcastle and how that is linked to the Saudi government,’ as per The Telegraph, via @NUFC360. This tweet went on to share The Telegraph’s claim that ‘it is hoped this will be resolved in the coming days’.
This post from @NUFC360 sharing The Telegraph’s recent claim caught the attention of plenty of Toon fans who have been replying to this tweet.

Some Newcastle fans questioned why the Premier League and the group behind this ongoing Toon takeover bid are only reportedly having these discussions now when Sky Sports reported that the group behind this takeover bid paid a deposit for the club over two months ago.

Seems like something that surely would of been spoke about at the start
— Dan Wearmouth (@danwearmouth) July 1, 2020
Why now? Why not do this months ago?
— Michael???? (@MichaeINUFC) July 1, 2020
Do you think that these discussions should have been completed already?YES, OF COURSENO, I DON'T THINK SO |
12 weeks in, and they dont know the proposed make up? Gotta be a joke
— Andrew (@Chadwick_10) July 1, 2020

Back in May, Masters spoke to Sky Sports, where he stated that he “can’t say anything” about the takeover of football clubs because it is a “confidential process.” After this news regarding the conversations between the Premier League and Newcastle’s prospective buyers was shared by The Telegraph, some Toon fans replied to this post to question how ‘confidential’ the process is.
Theres seems to be a lot of leaks for a confidential process
— Matt ??????? (@TheMatthew2660) July 1, 2020
Thought this was a confidential process why is there so many leaks ??
— JTNUFC???? (@JTNUFC20) July 1, 2020
However, a number of fans were more positive about the matter.
Could this be the final phase?

Considering that Sky Sports reported that this takeover was ‘nearing completion’ when the Saudi-backed group behind the takeover bid paid their deposit back in April, it may be understandable why some Toon fans shared some frustration over the length of time that they have been waiting for some confirmation on the Premier League’s decision regarding this takeover bid in response to this tweet, by questioning why The Telegraph has claimed that these discussions between Newcastle’s would-be owners and England’s top flight haven’t been completed yet.
