Starting with an easy one, against which club did Shelvey make his Newcastle debut?

Douglas then claimed that Bruce knows that the club are ‘big enough and financially strong enough to mean that survival on its own shouldn’t be cause for celebration’.

He also included in his post a link to an article he wrote for Chronicle Live on Bruce.

This post then gathered a lot of replies from Newcastle fans, who were quick to share their thoughts on Douglas’ statement regarding Bruce.

Here’s a sample of Newcastle fans responding to the post:

Bruce was appointed as Newcastle manager back in July 2019, taking over from Rafael Benitez. Since then, Bruce has taken charge of 40 matches for the Toon, in which he has managed to pick up a points-per-game average of 1.35 (per Transfermarkt).

In the Premier League, the 59-year-old has guided his team to 12th place on 43 points after 33 games. During those matches, Newcastle have won 11, drawn 10 and lost 12.

Would you keep Steve Bruce as manager if the takeover goes through?

Now that Douglas has shared his thoughts on Bruce and his future at St. James’ Park, this sparked a big reaction on Twitter, with plenty of Newcastle fans sharing their views on the matter.

It appears that while these Newcastle fans appreciate the job Bruce has done for their club so far this season, they don’t see him as the right man to take the club forward if they are taken over by Amanda Staveley and her Saudi-based consortium.

This shows just how much confidence they have in the proposed takeover that they will then become a massive force to be reckoned with in terms of winning titles, which will subsequently need a top manager to take them in that direction.
