Newcastle United fans on Twitter have been responding to the latest social media post from Magpies journalist Mark Douglas.
This comes after Douglas shared a post on his official Twitter page claiming that Newcastle manager Steve Bruce has ‘likely earned a chance if the takeover happens’.
Douglas then claimed that Bruce knows that the club are ‘big enough and financially strong enough to mean that survival on its own shouldn’t be cause for celebration’.
He also included in his post a link to an article he wrote for Chronicle Live on Bruce.
This post then gathered a lot of replies from Newcastle fans, who were quick to share their thoughts on Douglas’ statement regarding Bruce.
Here’s a sample of Newcastle fans responding to the post:
Steve Bruce has likely earned a chance if the takeover happens.
But – as he knows – #nufc are big enough and financially strong enough to mean that survival on its own shouldn't be cause for celebration.https://t.co/Rr1fbQgQX3

Bruce has done what he was brought in to do – avoid relegation.
If the takeover happens, we’ve been sold an idea of optimism and dreaming big, with at least one huge signing as a sign of intent.I’m afraid sticking with Bruce just doesn’t fit that vision.

If new owners have any ambition at all, Bruce will be out the door before too long. He’s earned another Premier League gig, something that may have seemed very unlikely whilst at Sheffield Wednesday/disaster at Villa before that.

Bruce was appointed as Newcastle manager back in July 2019, taking over from Rafael Benitez. Since then, Bruce has taken charge of 40 matches for the Toon, in which he has managed to pick up a points-per-game average of 1.35 (per Transfermarkt).
Still don’t get this earned the right…….really?
Has he moved us forward despite being the most financially backed manager since Steve McClaren……not really!

In the Premier League, the 59-year-old has guided his team to 12th place on 43 points after 33 games. During those matches, Newcastle have won 11, drawn 10 and lost 12.
Would you keep Steve Bruce as manager if the takeover goes through?
Yes
No
There is absolutely no way he should be in charge if a takeover happens. Hes done a great job but thanks very much Steve it’s time to move on to bigger and better things. If the takeover doesn’t happen it won’t really matter as the storm will be Impossible to lift

Keeping Bruce would be a huge anti climax. If the takeover happens and there is a desire to become the real deal, @nufc need to move on quickly, not drag heels. Bruce is not long term so why think short term?

Now that Douglas has shared his thoughts on Bruce and his future at St. James’ Park, this sparked a big reaction on Twitter, with plenty of Newcastle fans sharing their views on the matter.
Sorry Mark there is no way he should be in charge of us if the takeover goes through. Top players want to play for top managers. We would struggle to get quality players here even if we offered them big money. If they were to play for a rafa or a pochetino that could swing it

If takeover happens Steve Bruce has to go because he won’t take this club forward
— Liam ???? (@LondonToonfan) July 6, 2020
It appears that while these Newcastle fans appreciate the job Bruce has done for their club so far this season, they don’t see him as the right man to take the club forward if they are taken over by Amanda Staveley and her Saudi-based consortium.
This shows just how much confidence they have in the proposed takeover that they will then become a massive force to be reckoned with in terms of winning titles, which will subsequently need a top manager to take them in that direction.
