Fans of Newcastle United have been reacting to a post on Twitter, in which Jamie Reuben issues a statement regarding their withdrawal from the takeover of Newcastle United.

Newcastle had been in the midst of a £300 million Saudi Arabian backed takeover bid, which would have meant the end of Mike Ashley’s reign of the club, as well as significant investment in players at the club.

Starting with an easy one, against which club did Shelvey make his Newcastle debut?

However, it was announced on Thursday that ‘Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund, PCP Capital Partners and Reuben Brothers’ ended their interest in the club, with the reason given as ‘worldwide uncertainty’ caused by the global pandemic.

And, on Twitter, Jamie Reuben issued a statement on behalf of the Reuben Brothers.

He said: “We feel great compassion for the Newcastle United fans with whom we shared a great commitment to help Newcastle United harness its tremendous potential and build upon its impressive and historic legacy while working closely with the local community.”

He continued: “We would like to say that we truly appreciated your incredible expressions of support and your patience throughout this process. We are sorry it is not to be.”

In reaction to his post, fans of the club flocked to have their say on the matter, with many claiming that they believed the interest was a scam, while others have stated their devastation at the news.

It is evident just how upset these Newcastle fans are at the news, which will have been particularly hard to take because of just how long the takeover process dragged on.

And, because of this, many have taken aim at the Premier League for the withdrawal of interest.

While the news is obviously hard to take for Newcastle fans, one positive of the deal is that now their club can plan accordingly regarding summer transfers and plans for next season, without the uncertainty hanging over their heads.
