Newcastle United fan Steve Wraith caught the attention of some Toon supporters recently after he shared a tweet from Daily Telegraph journalist Ed Clowes, discussing the news that ‘the UK will begin selling arms to Saudi Arabia once more, following a ban put in place last year’.

Wraith quote-tweeted this post from Clowes and in his own post, he declared that he believes the latest developments in relations between the UK and Saudi Arabia are ‘very positive’.

As per Chronicle Live’s ‘Newcastle takeover news’ live blog, ‘Amanda Staveley, the Reuben brothers, and the Saudi Public Investment Fund’ are currently waiting for the Premier League’s approval to complete their takeover of Newcastle United and this ongoing Saudi-backed takeover attempt may explain why Toon fan Wraith believes that this update on UK-Saudi relations is ‘very positive’.

After Wraith shared this news on Twitter, plenty of Toon supporters flocked to his tweet to share their thoughts on this update.

One Toon fan replied to this post to share that while they believe this is “very positive” for the ongoing Saudi-backed Toon takeover attempt, they disagree with the UK’s decision to reopen arms trade with Saudi Arabia.

Starting with an easy one, against which club did Shelvey make his Newcastle debut?

Other Newcastle fans responded to this post to share some optimism over this news and how it may impact the Saudi-backed Newcastle takeover bid, which has been going through the Premier League’s checks since April

However, other Toon fans responded to Wraith’s tweet with more pessimism over this news and how it may relate to the Newcastle United takeover bid.

Is this good news for the Saudi-backed Newcastle United takeover bid?

YES, DEFINITELY

It may be understandable why some Toon fans may believe that this news regarding the UK’s decision to reopen arms trade with Saudi Arabia could be positive for the ongoing Saudi-backed Toon takeover bid.

However, beIN Sports’ objection to this takeover, due to Saudi Arabia’s involvement in the piracy of Premier League games was reported to have been ‘the only hurdle’ for this takeover and as a result, this update on UK-Saudi relations might not mean too much for this takeover as the World Trade Organisation’s ruling that Saudi Arabia helped pirate television broadcaster beoutQ to ‘breach international piracy laws’ may still complicate the deal.
