Starting with an easy one, against which club did Shelvey make his Newcastle debut?

Castles spent a lot of time talking about the takeover of Newcastle by Amanda Staveley’s Saudi-backed consortium and revealed that the buyers feel as if they have done everything required of them to take control of the Toon.

Here is what he had to say about the buyers and their view of the situation:

“They feel that essentially they’ve dealt with everything possible at this stage and therefore, they would expect an answer on approval from the Premier League soon because they cannot see any other areas where they can be questioned on and provide answers on.

“In fact, they describe the process as being more intense than anything they expected and that it has addressed every conceivable issue and every conceivable question.”

It seems as if Staveley’s consortium feel as if they have done everything required of them, and they were actually expecting this process to be less intense than it has turned out to be.

Do you think the buyers were right to expect the process to be less intense?

No, as all of the issues raised shows they should have been more prepared

Yes, they couldn't have predicted this

TIF Thoughts…

The buyers were initially told that the Premier League’s checks would take three to four weeks. They started in April and here we are in July and still there has been no decision.

So, it is no surprise that the consortium were not expecting it to be quite so intense, but during this process, complaints about piracy and human rights have emerged, amongst other things.

All of this has led to where we are today, which is a Premier League football club left in limbo.

The transfer window opens on Monday, and Newcastle are still unsure of who their owner is going to be by the time the new season comes around, so this situation is now damaging the club. The Premier League needs to make a decision or they risk seriously causing harm to the Toon.
