Michael Chopra has been speaking on a recent episode of NUFC Matters with Steve Wraith about the proposed takeover of Newcastle United.
Chopra spent a good bit of time on the takeover, led by Amanda Staveley and her Saudi-backed consortium, and revealed how the buyers are feeling about the deal despite the Premier League still looking at this takeover that was handed to them in April.
Here is what the former Toon striker had to say about the takeover:
“Everybody’s still very positive, Amanda’s positive, PIF are still positive that it’s going to happen.
“The transfer window opens in a couple of weeks.
“Realistically, Newcastle United are safe in the Premier League [so] there’s no rush now, you may as well let the season finish and then hopefully, by the time the transfer window opens, when business needs to happen, that’s when the new owners can come in and [the takeover can] take place.”
It seems as if Chopra still believes the buying side are confident about the takeover, so it will be interesting to see if their confidence is misplaced.

TIF Thoughts…
Chopra claims that the Toon are realistically safe in the Premier League when they are mathematically safe and that there is no rush for the takeover, and they should wait until the season finishes.
However, considering the season finishes on the 26th of July and the transfer window opens on the 27th, that doesn’t leave much time to get the new owners in place before the window opens.
Though Chopra sounds confident, this process has been going for long enough to make you think that there is something to be worried about, and it remains to be seen what the Premier League decide to do.
