Mark Douglas, speaking on the latest episode of the Everything is Black and White podcast, has revealed that he still thinks the proposed takeover of Newcastle United will go through.

Starting with an easy one, against which club did Shelvey make his Newcastle debut?

Douglas mainly discussed the shocking 5-0 defeat to Manchester City, where City set a new record for passes completed, but he did touch a little bit on the takeover.

While discussing the Toon’s end of the season, The Chronicle reporter dropped in a line about the takeover.

Here is what he had to say:

“He’ll [Steve Bruce] be worried that they lose momentum going into next season, and going into what is going to be an interesting close season if there are new owners, which we still believe that probably will happen at some point quite soon – so Bruce will be desperate to raise [his players] again.”

It seems as if Douglas still expects the takeover to happen and is predicting Bruce to try and get his players to finish the season strongly in the knowledge that the future could be bright for Newcastle – with the takeover thought to bring in owners that have sizeable riches to their name.

TIF Thoughts…

The deal for Amanda Staveley’s Saudi-backed consortium to buy Newcastle has been with the Premier League since April after a deposit was paid to Mike Ashley.

However, the PL has still not made a decision on the takeover, and the season ends in less than three weeks, so Newcastle could be in a state of limbo throughout the summer if the Premier League doesn’t make a decision soon.

Despite this, Douglas still seems to think that it will happen, and considering Bruce has said he would like the chance to prove himself at the club under new ownership, he is predicting him to get the Toon ready for their final four matches.

Newcastle were unbeaten in six league games before City thrashed them, and if Bruce wants a chance under the potential new owners, then you would think he would have to finish the season strongly to help his case.
