Mark Douglas has been speaking on the latest episode of the Everything is Black and White podcast and revealed his thoughts on why he thinks the proposed takeover of Newcastle United is still ongoing.

Starting with an easy one, against which club did Shelvey make his Newcastle debut?

Douglas spoke about other things, but he spent a bit of time on the takeover, and here is what he had to say about the situation:

“They haven’t had the green light just yet.

“It’s obvious to me, reading between the lines, that as of yet, the Premier League aren’t satisfied with the resolution that they’re getting on the piracy, they probably want to see a little bit more from Saudi Arabia or they want to get more assurances from Saudi Arabia on the piracy.”

It seems as if Douglas believes that the Premier League are still seeking some guarantees on piracy before they approve this takeover.

Do you think that the Premier League are exploiting this situation?

Yes, they are trying to get as much as they can

No, they are just doing their job

TIF Thoughts…

The deal for Amanda Staveley’s Saudi-backed consortium to acquire Newcastle from Mike Ashley was agreed in April, and a deposit was paid to Ashley.

However, concerns over piracy have held up the Premier League’s decision.

It was suggested that the Premier League needs some concessions from Saudi Arabia before they decide to approve the deal.

Since then, Saudi Arabia has announced a crackdown on piracy, and it was thought that this move was going to be enough to get the takeover through, but an announcement has not yet followed.

If Douglas is correct, the PL is just looking to get more from Saudi Arabia before passing this takeover.

Considering this process started in April and we are now in July, we hope there is not too much longer left.
