The Athletic’s George Caulkin is confident the Saudi-backed takeover of Newcastle United will go through.

Speaking on a recent edition of the Pod On The Tyne, Caulkin, alongside Matt Slater shared his “own very strong belief” from which those desperate to see the takeover completed may take confidence from.

It’s been 84 days since the Premier League owners’ and directors’ test process begun but those responsible for conducting the checks are yet to provide us with an announcement.

Starting with an easy one, against which club did Shelvey make his Newcastle debut?

Caulkin said: “The very simple rule of thumb is that money wins, and that’s not something I particularly like, but it tends to be a fact when it comes to the Premier League. I’ve always thought that finally, ultimately, eventually, money will win – and I suppose I mean Saudi money – yes, coming into Newcastle but also coming into the Premier League and that there is a way of making that work for everybody.”

TIF Thoughts…

Caulkin clearly remains confident that the takeover will be completed despite the lengthy delays. So far, the deal has faced opposition from a number of parties including BeIN Sports and Amnesty International but there hasn’t been any official decision communicated either way.

Do you share George Caulkin's confidence in regards to the takeover being completed?

In our view, given the various issues raised, if the Premier League were planning on rejecting the takeover, they may have done it by now. Fortunately for the club, the takeover talk doesn’t appear to have distracted the team from producing results on the pitch. Steve Bruce’s side have picked up eight points in the league since the restart and need just three more points to better their points tally from the 2018/19 season.
