Many Newcastle United fans have been talking about the latest news update linking them with a move to sign Bouna Sarr.
It was recently reported by The Northern Echo that the Magpies are interested in signing Sarr, who currently plies his trade with Ligue 1 side Marseille. The report claims that Sarr is expected to leave Marseille this summer and while Sevilla are leading the race for him, Newcastle see the right-back as a ‘viable’ target.
It also suggests that contact has been made with Sarr’s representatives but Newcastle’s interest currently remains at a ‘formative stage’.
This update was relayed on Twitter by NUFC 360 recently. Many Toon fans flocked to the news and they made their opinions very clear.
What will happen to the three right backs we already have?

Would you like Bouna Sarr at Newcastle next season?
That will be a bad move
I'd like that
We’re not signing anyone whilst the club is in limbo. Ashley won’t fork out a penny in the current state. That’s why it’s imperative that we get a decision now. We can’t plan for next season; at a huge disadvantage. Once the window opens we start losing out on potential targets

He’s 28 no chance

How can we buy players when the club is in limbo???

The report claims that their interest is related to their apparent reluctance to make Valentino Lazaro’s loan spell at the club permanent, with the Inter Milan loanee unlikely to make a switch to Tyneside this summer, despite an option to buy the 24-year-old. It is said that the Nerazzurri could agree to another loan deal for Lazaro, but clubs in Germany are interested in the Austrian.
Some other Newcastle fans had a negative opinion about the news involving Sarr.
Oh no we haven’t…

A failed right winger

It’ll be an Ashley special, buy now, pay later.

However, one fan put forward a positive reaction.
This, if true, is very good news. Manquillo is just about adequate only. Yedlin, Krafth and Lazaro are poor right backs & not PL standard. A position long overdue for strengthening #nufc

Sarr made 27 Ligue 1 appearances in the 2019/20 season for Marseille. He directly contributed to a total of four goals and played in multiple positions, putting in shifts at right-back, right midfield and left-back, highlighting his versatility (as per WhoScored).
The 28-year-old picked up a satisfactory WhoScored rating of 7.01/10. Only four Marseille players picked up a better season rating than Sarr in the 2019/20 season.
Therefore, the Frenchman has clearly had a decent season and he’s pretty versatile as well. Because of that, he could be a useful signing for the Magpies.
