Fans of Newcastle United have been reacting to a post on Twitter, which relays reports that Newcastle owner Mike Ashley has doubled his stake in Hugo Boss.

According to the report by Chronicle Live, the Frasers Group – which is owned by Mike Ashley – has doubled its stake in the German chain, increasing their shares from 3.5 million to 7 million, which are valued at £186 million.

Nice easy one to start off with, which club did Newcastle United sign Shearer from in 1996?

And, after the news was relayed on Twitter by Andrew Musgrove, fans of Newcastle United flocked to have their say on the matter, with many suggesting that Ashley’s spending could be something to do with the fact that he is set to receive £300 million from the potential sale of the Magpies.

The ongoing saga of Newcastle’s potential takeover could be nearing competition, following comments made by Premier League CEO, Richard Masters.

According to The Guardian, Masters was criticised by an MP for keeping Newcastle fans in the dark over the process – which has, so far, taken more than three months – to which he replied: “In a perfect world, takeovers would happen cleanly, clearly and in a timely fashion. Sometimes things get complicated.”

He also stated that he would “like the process to conclude shortly”, before commenting: “Some takeovers are straightforward and others aren’t. But if they can find the right people for their football clubs, they will be allowed through, and if not the right people, they won’t.”

As such, it would appear that these Newcastle fans have taken the news that Ashley is spending money to be a positive sign for the progression of the club’s takeover deal.

However, with Masters stating that the deal could be nearing a conclusion, it would seem that we will not have to wait much longer to find out whether or not these Newcastle fans are correct in their predictions.
