A lot of Newcastle United fans have replied to a tweet from Lee Ryder as he relayed the news that the Toon have decided not to sign Laurent Robert’s son Thomas, who has joined Scottish outfit Airdrieonians instead.
Newcastle were rumoured to be looking at Thomas, but he has ended up in Scotland to play for the Scottish League One side.
This has drawn the attention of many Newcastle fans, who feel that this just sums up the Toon under owner Mike Ashley.
Are you bothered Newcastle didn't sign Laurent Robert's son?
No
Yes
If ever a tweet summed up #NUFC under Ashley, it’s this.
A player turned us down to go to Airdrie …. ????

Couldnt compete with Airdrie

Laurent Robert was with Newcastle from the summer of 2001 to January 2006 and played a role in Magpies sides that competed in the Champions League and achieved finishes of third and fourth in the Premier League.
Still, it seems as if his son has decided that Scotland is the place for him to continue his career.
However, the news has not disappointed these Toon fans, who feel that if he has ended up playing for a League One side in Scotland, then he can’t be that good.
I mean if that’s where he’s ended up he can’t be that good

If he had to go to Airdrie, he cant be PL standard. Definitely not his dad then.
hopefully he develops and becomes our flying winger in time for our CL winning season in 3 years time post-takeover.

The son of Laurent supposedly turned down a new contract from Montpellier having made five appearances in the UEFA Youth League in the 2018/19 season.
The fact he has ended up at Airdrie suggests to some Toon fans that maybe he is not that good, and those supporters who are disappointed should maybe consider the fact the club decided not to sign the 19-year-old rather than the other way around.
Newcastle have signed goalkeeper Mark Gillespie ahead of next season, but with the club in the middle of ongoing takeover negotiations, it may not be surprising they have not signed anyone else this summer as of yet.
