Many Newcastle United fans have flocked to a tweet from Sky Sports’ Keith Downie after he reported that Steve Bruce will be holding a meeting with Matthew Longstaff regarding his future.

The player’s contract is due to expire at the end of this month, meaning the 20-year-old could walk away from St. James’ Park on a free transfer unless a deal between the two parties is agreed.

Nice easy one to start off with, which club did Newcastle United sign Shearer from in 1996?

Bruce told Sky Sports News (as per Downie’s tweet) that he hopes the meeting will result in a “positive” outcome whilst expressing his desire to see the midfielder put pen-to-paper on a new deal.

Here is how a sample of the club’s faithful have responded to the reporter’s update on Twitter.

One fan labelled the whole thing as a PR masterclass from Steve Bruce and seemed confident of the club agreeing a contract extension with the player, whereas others don’t appear to be impressed by what they’ve seen from Longstaff in regards to this situation. Supporters continued to make their feelings known in the replies section.

The majority of these Newcastle United fans appear to be disappointed in the fact that Longstaff, described as a ‘local lad’ needs so much convincing about his future, therefore, they are urging the club to let him go.

The centre-midfielder has made just seven Premier League appearances for the Magpies this season and so it could be argued if they were to lose the player, they would have little trouble coping with his absence. Whether they will come to regret letting him go in the future remains to be seen.
