Supporters of Newcastle United have been flocking to a club announcement that was posted to the Toon’s official Twitter account.
On Monday morning, the North East outfit posted an announcement to social media regarding the club’s primary sponsor.
The tweet revealed that the betting company FUN88 would remain the club’s main sponsor after reaching a new ‘long-term agreement’ (per Newcastle United).
In the post on the club’s website regarding the agreement, there was no further detail added over how long the new deal will last (per Newcastle United).
Supporters then flocked to the club’s Twitter post to air their thoughts on the new agreement between the club and the betting company.
?? #NUFC are pleased to confirm that @fun88eng will remain as the club’s primary partner after a new long-term agreement was reached.

FUN88 has been the club’s main sponsor since 2017 and the Toon described the betting company as having a ‘popular presence’ on social media with the St. James’ Park faithful.
However, some supporters took the announcement as bad news for the current takeover saga which is surrounding Newcastle.
I really like @fun88eng but to me this this doesn’t bode well for the takeover imo.

I think this means NO TAKEOVER!!
— Chris Smith (@ChrisSm71295632) July 20, 2020
The proposed takeover of United has been rolling on since January, which was when Amanda Staveley’s interest with the backing of Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund (PIF) first arose (per Shields Gazette).
Do you believe FUN88's sponsorship has anything to do with the takeover?
No, completely unrelated
Yes, doesn't bode well
Takeover out the window then.

Well the takeover was fun whilst it lasted ? pic.twitter.com/GqbLeDsTdb

As can be seen from what these Newcastle fans had to say, they clearly believe the new deal with FUN88 does not bode well for the takeover of the club.
