Ciaran Kelly has been on the latest episode of the Everything is Black and White podcast and has been discussing Matty Longstaff’s future at St. James’ Park.

Starting with an easy one, against which club did Shelvey make his Newcastle debut?

Kelly spoke about other things, but he spent a bit of time on Longstaff after Steve Bruce chose to play Fabian Schar in midfield for the Toon’s 2-1 defeat to Watford.

Here is what Kelly had to say about Longstaff missing out against the Hornets:

“He should be getting minutes in a game like this, particularly in the middle of the park where they were struggling so much.

“It just adds another layer of intrigue to another saga, and at the moment, you’re wondering is it going to result in him staying at Newcastle, and the longer it goes on you’re thinking he’s going to leave and that would be a real shame.”

It seems as if Kelly believes that if the Toon continue not playing Longstaff, they could risk losing him.

Do you think Longstaff will leave at the end of the season?

Yes, he is gone

Yes, he is gone

No, he will stay

No, he will stay

TIF Thoughts…

The 20-year-old’s contract with the Toon expires at the end of the season, and he reportedly has a contract offer from Udinese and the Toon, but as of yet, he has accepted neither.

Bruce has spoken about how much he wants to keep Longstaff at the club, but playing Schar instead of him tells a different story.

There are three games left of the season, and with the Toon safe from relegation, maybe Bruce should give Longstaff some more game time, considering he has only featured for 23 minutes in the league since the restart.

If Bruce really wants the 20-year-old to stay, then he could surely fit Longstaff into his side for these last three league games.
